Welcome to my brand new blog. I’m an experienced former political activist who has an annoyingly big itch to write about political topics both in Mongolia (where I live), and in the wider world (particularly the US, UK, EU countries and sometimes Asia too). I hope that you, dear reader, will find something of interest here as I seek to give a different take on political events. I will also be reviewing books from time to time on politics, but also other fields as it takes my fancy (it is my blog, after all!).
I am intending to share my thoughts on both practical political issues, as well as political theory from time to time. I also have a strong interest in economics and will look at the political economy aspects of certain economic trends in certain countries (e.g. Mongolia, China, etc.).
At the time of writing (24th July 2024) it seems that the world has become increasingly volatile politically, socially, and economically. I intend to muse on recent goings on in Mongolia, the US, the UK, the EU, and France which have all had elections (or, in the US, are about to). Given our proximity to China, it is impossible to ignore Chinese political and economic developments too. I may also opine on developments in Taiwan, as these have potential to have a serious impact on Mongolia.
You might not like what I have to say, dear reader, at times and that’s OK. I hope that folks will interact and feel free to comment. After all, debate is both important and stimulating. All I ask though is that you kindly keep comments reasonably constructive and respectful.
I’m now going to think about my first few posts. I am literally spoiled for choice on what to write about. 2024 is certainly an exciting year to be looking at political developments with so much of the democratic world going to the polls (e.g. the US and the post-Biden/Trump Assassination attempt circus going on there) or having recently gone to the polls (e.g. Mongolia, the UK, France, the European Parliamentary Elections, Slovakia, etc.).
I’ve also got a few political books I plan on reading and will share reviews with you. Again, feel free to share your thoughts. I’ll put links up to enable you to get the books for yourselves as well.
And yes, George Orwell is one of my favourite political writers, and we do live in a kind of political oligarchy here in Mongolia so I have used the “scapegoat” of Orwell’s famous book “1984” for my “nom de plume”. Please avoid guessing who I actually am dear reader. It’s better that you don’t know and I don’t intend to tell!
